Motivation Reaction Units
As you have seen in earlier week's material, Objective, Obstacles, and
Outcome have been the educational standard for writing scenes. A newer, more
sophisticted, more complicated process is available for even sharper writing. That
process is termed Motivation Reaction Units.
The reader is reading our works toe provide him/her with an emotional experience. In writing romance, you must create the illusion that the reader him/herself is falling in love. If writing a thriller, the reader share the illusion that he/she is in mortal danger and has only the tiniest chance of continuing life. In creative non-fiction, scenes are reconstituted to allow emotional access to a special time and place. And so on for all the genres.
Failing to create these emotions in your reader diminishes the work.The better you create the desired picture for the reader, the higher the involvement and experience for the reader.
